We're Not Playing the Same Game

Most people work their entire lives to build wealth they'll never own. #WeOwnThis is the rallying cry for everyone ready to flip the script.

Picture the Monopoly board.

You know it. You've played it. There's a board, there are properties, there are players, and at the end of the night somebody owns Boardwalk and somebody else is broke.

Now here's the thing nobody tells you: most of us were never given a token.

We've been working on someone else's properties, paying rent on every square we land on, watching the bank stack up — and we called it "making a living." We grind for a paycheck, hand most of it back in rent, wake up the next day, and do it again.

That's not a game. That's a treadmill with a bill at the end of every month.

The numbers don't care about your effort

The wealth gap in this country isn't a hustle problem. It isn't an education problem. It isn't a "make better choices" problem.

It's an ownership problem.

The richest sliver of households owns the overwhelming majority of stocks, equity, and commercial real estate. In working-class Black neighborhoods, most of the corner stores, strip malls, and apartment buildings are owned by people who don't live there. That money doesn't stay. Rent goes out. Profits leave. The neighborhood gets called "underserved" while it's actively being mined.

You can work three jobs and never close that gap. You can budget every dollar and never close that gap. The gap isn't about how hard you work. It's about what you own when you stop working.

#WeOwnThis is the alternative

This isn't a charity. This isn't a hashtag for someone else's foundation report. This is a movement for people who are tired of being studied, surveyed, and "served" — and ready to be owners.

Community ownership means putting your name on the deed of the place where you live, work, worship, and raise your kids. It means the corner store, the apartment building, the strip mall down the street — those become assets that build wealth for the people who keep them open.

It means flipping the equation:

Assets × Time = Wealth

When you own something — even a small piece of something — and you give it time, you build something nobody can take. That's not a get-rich-quick promise. That's how every wealthy person and every wealthy family in this country has actually built wealth. The only difference is most of us were locked out of the room.

We're starting in Chicago. We're growing into Baltimore. We're going wherever ownership is being claimed back, block by block.
